Westward Ho!

Due to a minority of inconsiderate users of the beach, the Torridge District Council (TDC) have entered in to a round of public consultation regarding the use of the beach at Westward Ho! for the purpose of kite sports.

WWKC would like to take this opportunity to remind the kite community of the guidelines regarding appropriate and considerate use of our beach. Click here for guidelines.

It has been brought to the club's attention that there exists a minority of visitors to the beach who persist in inconsiderate and inappropriate use.  These actions include flying outside of the permitted zones and the "buzzing" of members of the public and their dogs.  As unbelievable as it sounds it's real, it's happening and poses a very real threat to our right to fly.

The threat of new restrictive by-laws is a very real.

The governance of the beach is currently under review and with it the current by-laws.  TDC  are reviewing these right now.  The time for politeness within the community is over.  If you are tempted to fly at Westward Ho! without consideration of guidelines please go somewhere else.  You are not welcome here.

We pride ourselves on being open to all with very few restrictions, but selfish flying must be irradiated.  It's damaging our relationship with the wider community, it's corrosive within the kite community and at odds with the fundamentals of the sport.

Help us to stamp out selfish flying and preserve access to this premier beach.

Thank you for reading, voting and flying responsibly.

Fly Safe.
